Rory Cartmell

Trombone / Euphonium

Rory Cartmell is a trombone and euphonium player from Northamptonshire.  Inspired by his father, a keen amateur trombonist, he began playing the euphonium in brass bands.  During his time at school he studied with David Childs before receiving a Scholarship to learn with Byron Fulcher at the Royal College of Music, London.

While still a student he began his professional career performing with the Philharmonia Orchestra and successfully auditioned to be Principal Trombone of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.  Touring Europe with the GMJO has given Rory the opportunity to perform in many of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls and music festivals.

Rory regularly performs with the UK’s leading orchestras, opera companies, in the recording studio and on the West-end.  Alongside playing, he teaches at Brentwood School and Chigwell School.
