Christopher Barrett

Artistic Director / Tuba

Christopher Barrett is a tuba player, producer, and record label owner. He is active as a freelance musician, producer, and teacher in London, playing in a variety of both classical and non-classical contexts.

Born in Wirral, Cheshire, and raised in California, Christopher received a scholarship to attend The Royal College of Music in London before joining The European Youth Orchestra as Principal Tuba. Since embarking on an orchestral and solo career he has performed with orchestras around the UK including London Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, and Bath Philharmonia as well as performing as a soloist on BBC Radio 3, BBC Live Lounge, and The Danish Broadcasting Co. He was recently featured at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club with Arthur Lea’s Bootleg Trio, as well as with the MOBO award-winning Sons of Kemet, and Mercury Prize nominee SEED Ensemble. His compositions have been performed at The London Jazz Festival, Latitude Festival, and around the UK. 

Christopher is the owner of the PTC Record Label and the Managing Director of Musicians’ Movement. He has produced and recorded several albums through the label and recently founded The Ensemble of the Golden Bough. He is an active clinician and has recently given masterclasses at Wellington College, Kings School Canterbury and The University of Kent; he also serves as the tuba/low brass coach for The National Children’s Orchestra.
